Terry Dynes (1934-2011)

Terry Dynes passed away on April 9, 2011. He will be missed.

Dr Terry F. Dynes, M.D., age 77. Born in Aberdeen, South Dakota 1/3/34. Died 4/9/2011 in Bonita Springs, Florida.

Married his high school (and to this day) sweetheart in 1954, Shirley Walker. Graduated from University of South Dakota with a BS degree and a Masters degree. Graduated from Northwestern Medical School, Chicago in 1959. Served in the U.S. Navy as a flight surgeon for 5 years before moving to Decorah, Iowa. He practiced medicine there for 38 years.

Terry retired January 1998. He and his wife, Shirley have shared time between Decorah, Iowa and Bonita Springs, Florida since then.

Terry has remained involved in neighborhood community club activities. He has served in various aspects through his local church. He has loved all of his mission trips, particularly his last two to Haiti where he went with his son, Rod. Serving people as a physician, and serving our Lord combined to be a driving force in his life. Terry was active in bible study, and, along with Shirley, hosted a small group study in their home. He also thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie and fellowship with his Friday morning men's group.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Ruth Dynes, his sister, Ginger Dynes Kukuk, son, Mark Allan Dynes, daughter, Marcia Dynes Watson, and niece, Leslie Kukuk Harrison.

Terry is survived by: his wife, Shirley, son, Dr. Rodney (Deb) Dynes, daughter, Ruth (Richard) Draeger, daughter-in-law, Barb Headington, son-in-law, Mike Watson, brother-in-law Howard (Becky) Kukuk, niece, Penny Kukuk Dunn, and nephew Gary Kukuk. He also claims 11 grandchildren, Philip (Angie) Headington, Curtis Headington and Joey Headington. Also, Travis (Michelle) Dynes, Dominique Dynes, Zachariah Dynes, Hannah Dynes, Carol Solorzano, Ginger Watson, Adam Draeger and Katie Draeger. Also Terry was very proud to have 6 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Naples Christian Church in Naples, Florida on April 11 at 2:00 with a reception following. A service will be held later in Decorah, Iowa, probably in June. Memorials may be given to "Short Term Missions Fund", 830 W. Lakeview Dr., Bonita Springs, FL 34134; or to "Global Health Outreach", P.O. Box 7500, Bristol, TN 37621; or to any group of your choice.

Terry's original HHS51.com profile:

I earned a B.A.and M.A. from USD and my M.D. from Northwestern University, Chicago. I married Shirley Walker (class 1952) in 1954 and we had 4 children and 10 grandchildren. Two of our children died at 28 and 38 years of age. We moved to Decorah, IA after 5 years in the Navy and lived there until retirement in January 1998 when we moved to Florida for the winters. We are now in Decorah only during the summer months. We are enjoying the snow free existence in FL with boating, fishing and relaxing without night calls and with little responsiblity. This summer we will be going to Guatemala with a sister parish program from our IA church. Grandchildren are scattered in CA & IA and MN. This gives excuses to travel. I appreciated the excellent preparation that HHS gave for college and beyond.
