Jacqueline (Van Tour) Klinger

Jacqueline (Van Tour) Klinger, age 78 of Mesa, AZ and formerly of Huron, SD, Minneapolis and Indianapolis, died on July 24, 2011 at Banner Baywood Hospice in Mesa, AZ. Her memorial service was held at the Fountain East Community Center in Mesa.

Jacqueline (Jackie), the daughter of Robert and Juanita Van Tour, was born on June 7, 1933 in Minneapolis, MN, where she attended elementary school, and later moved to Huron, SD, where she graduated from Huron High School in 1951. Jackie married Bob Kruse in 1952 and subsequently lived in Huron, Minneapolis and Indianapolis before moving to Scottsdale, AZ in 1965 and then to Mesa, AZ.

Jackie's passion was for the world renowned Sweet Adelines of Scottsdale. She was a 27-year member of the Scottsdale group. The group won numerous awards in Arizona and around the country earning trips to England and Australia to perform in worldwide competitions in which they won top international honors twice while Jackie was a member. Jackie served as president and executive assistant of the Scottsdale organization for a time during her 27 years as a member.

Her work history also included positions as an executive assistant at Arizona State University and the Ramada Inn in Scottsdale. Interests in later years included her cat, her computer, reading and family trips.

Grateful for having shared in Jackie's life are her 6 children: Linda (Kruse) Shipman of Los Angeles, CA and David Kruse of San Francisco, CA and Michael Kruse, Carol (Kruse) Blaine and Karen (Kruse) Newmark of Mesa, AZ. Daughter, Suzanne (Kruse) Sladek, was also a resident of California prior to her death in 2004. She had 4 granddaughters, Danielle Blaine, Alexis Newmark, Kimberly Sladek, Crystal Barna, and 3 grandsons: Robert Barna, Austin Newmark, Max Kruse, 3 great grandchildren, and two sisters, Darlene Van Tour of Apple Valley, MN and Janell (Van Tour) Adams of Mitchell, SD.

Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Juanita and Robert Van Tour, her husband, Bob Kruse, her daughter, Suzanne (Kruse) Sladek and her grandparents.
