Jacqueline Marone Kuhl

On September '51, I entered McKennon Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux Falls. I did some study work in Aberdeen, returned to Sioux Falls and graduated in August '54. Married Ray Kuhl in December '54. In August '55, we moved to Waco, TX where Ray attended U.S. Air Force radar school. We returned to Sioux Falls in '57. I worked at the McKennan Hospital until we moved to Madison, SD where Ray became Public Relations Manager for Rural Electric. Five years later, we moved to Huron, then Washington, DC, and then back to Sioux Falls, where Ray took a new job with Sioux Valley Electric Cooperative. In '79 we moved to Michigan where Ray organized a state association for Michigan Rural Electric. Ray was General Manager until his retirement in '96. We then began our annual visits to Florida to escape the Michigan winters.

We have five children, all being born by Caesarian section, 4 girls and one boy, ranging today from 34 to 45 years of age. We have 11 grandchildren, 5 girls and 6 boys, ranging from 4 to 21 years of age. Aren't grandchildren wonderful!

I worked as a nursing home administrator in Lansing, MI for 6 years. For the past 16 years, I have worked in Home Health taking care of the same young man who is now 34. He suffered severe closed head injury in an auto accident. Our recovery team has succeeded in getting him to work two hours for three days each week doing therapeutic activities involving horseback riding, swimming and music. He does not sit, stand, walk or talk. This has been a very challenging but rewarding experience in my life.

My hobbies involve spending time with the grandchildren, of course, and gardening, walking, and golfing, whenever Ray insists.
