Barbara Habel Zacheis

I graduated from Carleton College in 1955 and married classmate Carleton Zacheis that summer. We lived in Aberdeen, Arkansas and Chicago, Illinois before moving to Newton, Iowa in 1958 when Carl became employed by the Maytag Corporation. In 1964, Maytag sent us to its New York office and we lived in Northport, Long Island for 20 years. In 1984, he returned to the home office back in Newton where he worked until his retirement in 1996. I worked as a secretary in Aberdeen and Chicago and was executive director of a nursery school/day care center in Northport. Many of the years since college I have been a church organist and given piano lessons and other music stuff.

We are still living on an acreage outside of Newton but also have a house on Amelia Island, Florida north of Jacksonville, where we spend winters.

We have two sons and a daughter. Mark is distribution manager for a firm in New Jersey which imports and markets luxury watches. His wife, Barbara Ann, is an instrumental music teacher and their daughter, Kristen, is 12. Our daughter, Amy, is working on her PhD in biology at the U. of Alaska after teaching several years in the Alaskan bush. She is married to Matt Sweetsir who is manager of the barge line on the Yukon River and they have a baby girl, Hayley, 6 months old. Our younger son, Laird, and his wife, Sunhee Lee, live on the north side of Chicago. Laird is an actuary and Sunhee is an attorney.

We have seen some of you recently and hope we can organize a 50th.
